The Resources Post

I mentioned that there were some great resources out there. Here are a few:

Cutting Edge Advertising by Jim Aitchkinson
Hey Whipple, Squeeze This by Luke Sullivan
Ogilvy on Advertising by David Ogilvy
One Show Annuals
Type Director’s Club Annuals

and maybe, just maybe:

The Book of Gossage by Howard Gossage

(I say “maybe” here because I think this is the best book on creativity ever. It’s just…odd. It’s less for the beginner and more for the experienced. It’s amazing, but I think to start, the other books are “better,” and I use that term loosely.)

Websites: (subscription based though) (highly executional stuff) (great for juniors) (what the planners are thinking) (favorite website awards)

Blogs: (interactive stuff) (if you like web banners…) (great design blog)

Communication Arts – Esp. the Advertising and Design Annuals
Archive Magazine (

There are more. Lots and lots more. I’ll be providing them as we go along. One important thing to remember is that you can’t go to these things looking for ideas. You have to go there to jar your head around and say, “wow, I never thought of solving the problem like that.” And then you can never solve the problem like that, because that would be theft.

But it is good to see what is great out there.

More to come.
